About Us

Vision:

Homegrown Foods Ltd strives to ensure the products we carry meet the Organic Principles of Agriculture through our producers, processors and distributors. You can also be assured our products are free of herbicides, pesticides and other chemicals, as well as genetically modified products, as they are NOT accepted as organic.

Mission:

We strive to enthusiastically supply, distribute and process high quality fresh, wholesome, local, organic and natural specialty products; while providing customers with superior service and knowledge, to help them eat right and live well.

Our History:

Homegrown Foods is owned by the Schoepp family which has lived, and continues to farm, in the Stony Plain area for five generations. In 1996 Jim Schoepp and a group of other local producers began providing a weekly service to customers who wanted products direct from the farmer. The success of this venture began to formulate a business idea and in 1997 Jim sold most of his cattle to step into the retail business.

As the demand for organic food and supplements continued to grow, we have also grown with an expansion in 2010 and again in 2014. Currently we carry over 18,000 items and have grown to 8000 Square feet of retail space. In 2018 we opened an in-store coffee shop with homemade soups, salads, sandwiches and specialty beverages, using only biodegradable serving items. The coffee shop also boasts the only soft serve organic ice cream in Alberta. In 2021 we opened our in house bakery and now offer organic bread, cinnamon buns, muffins and squares.

It’s our pleasure to continue serving all of our loyal customers who have helped make this dream a reality. Thanks to you, we can offer local, healthy options to all our neighbors.

The Homegrown staff is very knowledgeable and will be able to provide you with information on products we already carry and will source items, or information you might require.

Thank you once again for choosing Homegrown Foods!
